Five years ago, Donna-Lee, a mother of two, referred to as the “Royals” needed an affordable place to call home. She learned about MEND through a referral from her children’s preschool and applied for residency.
After being waitlisted for six months, Donna-Lee was welcomed by the MEND community and embraced her new home. “The affordability, the feeling of community, the school systems, and the faith-based values woven into the organization made it the right choice for me.”
With the help of the other MEND residents, Donna-Lee transitioned into one of MEND’s family housing sites.
“The staff and other tenants are like an extended family, always willing to help each other out when the needs arises – whether by offering information on resources such as summer camps or by helping out with the children.”
Donna-Lee’s time at MEND has contributed to the improved stability and security for her and her family. Grateful for the support she received, when invited to join MEND’s Board of Trustees, she accepted the opportunity.
“Volunteering with MEND allows me to offer my time to help through my position as Board Member At-Large. I see MEND through the lens of both the residential and the governing bodies and I’m able to give back, sharing my knowledge and experiences to benefit my community.”
Looking forward, Donna-Lee sees her journey with MEND coming to a close.
“MEND has played a significant role in helping me to transition both personally and professionally. As I anticipate moving on, I hope others will also find the support and resources they need through MEND to plan for the next chapter in their lives.”
