SUPPORT OUR “NOW” WITH YOUR DONATION

The low-income residents we house now and the people who are waiting for our housing to become available need MEND and your support now more than ever. The need for affordable housing in southern New Jersey continues to grow while housing development and financing grows more challenging; and the statutory, regulatory and legal environment grows more complicated. New Jersey’s continuing legal and political struggles with court-mandated affordable housing obligations (which began in 1975 with the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Mount Laurel I decision) are now in their third decade with no end in sight.

While our rents are low, our expenses are not. MEND incurs “market-rate” expenses to manage, maintain and repair our housing developments. This makes it challenging for our revenues (apartment rents) to match our expenses.

SUPPORT OUR “FUTURE” WITH YOUR DONATION

In 2005, Friends of MEND started an Endowment Fund for the long-term benefit of MEND’s affordable housing development and management. The strategy is to build an investment fund whose principal will remain intact and whose earnings will eventually be available to help defray MEND’s expenses. The Friends of MEND Board is responsible for raising the endowment funds, setting the investment guidelines and establishing the disbursement parameters. Since its establishment in 2005, no disbursements have been made from the account as yet because both MEND and Friends of MEND are committed to building the Endowment Fund for the long-run. Thus donors who make a financial contribution to the Endowment Fund can do so with the knowledge that their generosity will make a difference in the lives of thousands of MEND residents for years and years to come.

You may contribute to the Endowment Fund in several ways including:

  • Donations of cash, security or real estate
  • Bequests by Will, the most common form of planned giving
  • Life Insurance, naming Friends of MEND as the beneficiary
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts which can provide you with lifetime income

SUPPORT US “YOUR WAY” WITH YOUR DONATION

Perhaps “Your Way” of lending support to our mission is to make a contribution in honor of a loved one or occasion, by giving to the MEND Resident Emergency Fund which is to help our residents when unexpected circumstances create additional financial challenges,  by giving to the MEND Scholarship for Rowan College at Burlington County (started in 2014 to help MEND residents further their education), or by participating with a fundraiser. MEND holds fundraisers such as its Annual Gala and the Friends of MEND Golf Outing. Your purchase of tickets, ads and/or sponsorships to these events helps support MEND’s mission.

MEND’s mission is to maintain and expand the supply of affordable rental housing for low and moderate income households using vision, experience and expertise.
